Sisters of the Desert Sun Embrace Poet Solmaz Sharif and "Look"

Sisters of the Desert Sun read Solmaz Sharif's poetry collection, Look, in August 2016.  Sharif's work introduced us to the language of war and the reality that so many have suffered in Syria and around the world.  Brilliantly woven into her work, Sharif includes a glossary of sorts that offers alternative definitions to commonplace words, which results in a profound realization of the impact of death and violence as constant companions.  Sharif's command of her art and passion for the innocents who are the living and memorialized victims of conflict is stated with such poignancy, it left many of us changed forever.  Look is an awakening for us all, a movement away from sound bites and sensationalism and an invitation to become aware, accept reality and embrace unpleasant truths.  Only then can we affect change. Through her art, Solmaz Sharif shows us that we can make a difference however great or small.
