Siddhartha - SDS Choice for December

Everyone has had the experience of having someone tell them "you've got to read this book".  I've certainly recommended quite a few over the years.  There are the books that move you to tears, inspire, excite, and then there are the books that fall into the category of life changing.  Among the many books that people have recommended for me is Herman Hesse's Siddhartha.  It's taken a while to get to it, but I'm anxious to turn the pages and find out what's been waiting for me.

For our December meeting, we will be sharing our personal lists of life changing must reads.  I'm asking for our Sisters to share their top 5.  What's on your life changing must read list and why?  Let us know at via e-mail at sistersofthedesertsun@gmail.com or through Facebook or Twitter.

From the Publisher:
Siddhartha is an allegorical novel by the very authentic author Hermann Hesse which deals with the spiritual journey of an Indian boy called Siddhartha during the time of the Buddha.  The book, Hesse's ninth novel, was written in German, in a simple, yet powerful and lyrical, style. It was first published in 1922, after Hesse had spent some time in India in the 1910s. It was published in the U.S. in 1951 and became influential during the 1960s.  The word Siddhartha is made up of two words in the Sanskrit language, siddha (gotten) + artha (meaning or wealth). The two words together mean "one who has found meaning (of existence)" or "he who has attained his goals".
