Reviewing SDS Selections from Februaries Past

We had an amazing discussion on Mat Johnson's "The Great Negro Plot", the SDS choice for Black History Month.  There was so much to say.  I enjoy every conversation we share about the work of amazing authors like Johnson.

In celebration of our 10th anniversary year, each month we'll be reviewing selections made by Sisters of the Desert Sun.  Our February picks included:  Black White and Jewish by Rebecca Walker, Naked: Black Women Bare All About Their Skin Hair Hips Lips and Other Parts edited by Ayana Byrd and Akiba Solomon, Shaking the Tree: a Collection of New Fiction and Memoir by Black Women  edited by Meri Nana-Ama Danquah, Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, Some Love Some Pain Sometime by J. California Cooper, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neal Hurston, The Grace of Silence by Michele Norris, Who's Afraid of Post Blackness by Toure, and The Book of Sarah's: a Family in Parts by Catherine McKinley.

My favorite was Naked: Black Women Bare All About Their Skin Hair Hips Lips and Other Parts edited by Ayana Byrd and Akiba Solomon.  What was yours?  Let us know your favorite.  Tell us at sistersofthedesertsun@gmail.com.  To find out more about our monthly selections and other book recommendations visit us on Facebook, Twitter and Good Reads.
